Drum Dance Events
We drum - you dance! Its easy, exciting, tribal, earthy and invigorating.
Abelungu play African drums in various styles for you to dance to. Initially there is a series of different rhythms or pieces of various styles, usually with a short gap between each one. You can warm up and get a full body work out, depending on your own limitations.
After a break Abelungu plays a continuous piece of improvised music which lasts between 40 minutes and an hour. The improvisation focuses on the changing rhythms of our lives and leads the dancers on a journey of self expression. The
journey starts and ends with gentle rhythms but includes exciting beats from Abelungu at their best. Throughout the dance Abelungu are inspired by the dancers and reflect their energy in a
synchronistic experience.
Dancers of most ages and experience are welcome, typically ages 13 and above. Children who need input from adults during the experience will not benefit from this journey. Dancers are encouraged to keep themselves safe and dance within their own limitations. The dance is a personal experience and although you might be inspired to dance with others, you are encouraged to respect what others might need too. No one will be watching you dance. You are encouraged to move in a way which is comfortable for you. This might mean lying on the floor, sitting in a corner or dancing your wildest dance! Dance with your eyes open, wear loose clothing and bring water to drink.

King Cross Fire Station Community Room
The Fire Station at King Cross Halifax is situated near the King Cross traffic lights. From the west follow signs to Huddersfield & Brighouse A629 and turn left into the fire station grounds. Park at the front or leave to the right and re-enter the premises again to go round to the rear. DO NOT turn left around the front as you might meet a large fast heavy fire engine.
The Community room is well signed at the right hand end of the building.
